Many people wrongly assume that the poodle is mixed with the Newfoundland purely for the non shedding and non drooling aspect. This could not be further from the truth in my opinion. Both breeds have WONDERFUL personality traits that compliment each other well. They also BOTH have things that need balance.
Newfoundland’s can be quite unmotivated and downright stubborn at times. This can make training a bit trickier than with other breeds. The Poodle balances this out quite well with its VERY willing to please attitude and extreme intelligence.
The poodle can be a bit sensitive and the Newfoundland balances this out well with their easy going mellow attitude.
The Newfoundland has many health issues that can also be mitigated to an extent by mixed breeding if genetic and health testing is done on both parents.
Both Newfoundland’s and Poodles can have a wide range in energy levels. One very common misconception is that Newfoundland’s are super low energy. This CAN be true. And is true in general with relation to many other breeds. But some Newfoundland’s also have tremendous energy and stamina. Poodles are the same way. You can get poodles that are happy to lazy around all day after a good walk. And those that can go all day long. I find most of this is set up during puppyhood and you can find more information on the “mellow puppies” link.
Newfypoos are also known as Newfiedoodles, Newfydoodles, Newfiepoos, Newdles, Newfoundlandpoo, Newfoundlanddoodle, or Poofoundland.
